Today in class we did LOTS of work. I first went over a checklist on how to bolster your evidence. We talked about and looked at our essays to see: including direct quotes and crediting the source, leading in or out of evidence with phrases that credit your sources, including background information about the evidence so that it makes sense to the reader and explaining why the evidence is important by answering the "so what."
Also we talked about techniques to be using: adding quotes, leading into a quote, pg. #'s, cutting quotes down to use only important part, tucking in background info. so the reader has context, citing or paraphrasing sources, and explaining why evidence matters.
I handed out a paper that talked about Ranking and Choosing important evidence, and also one that talked about Make "Quotes" Work. You were then sent back to your seats to work on body paragraph 1,2, or 3. You could add these paragraphs or start a new one on a blank page 6. I want to see revision or a new body paragraph.
1. Read # of pages and record.
2. Work on essay to revise.
3. Finish Author's planning sheet.
