So, today in class we practice our argument skills. I handed out a paper called: "Moves That Pay Off." Copy this address in your browser to open up the documents.
Then each of your were paired up with a partner that was the opposite of you, pro or con. You had 2-3 minutes to speak your claim and evidence, citing sources as you spoke. Two other students assess you while you were speaking on the information from "Moves That Pay Off." I assessed you on a HOWLs: I will be a respectful speaker and listener. I looked for the moves on the discussion paper on page 19 in your reading notebooks.
This is truly a practice for you to see how to defend a position which is the main focus in the argument unit we are currently in.
1. Read your #of pages identified on your reading goal sheet.
2. Work on author's planning sheet for the two books by the same author.
3. Parents NEED to sign up for conferences. Students have been given the paper with the information on it.
